Sevilla vs Valencia

The two sides have shown a lot of promise at the start of La Liga campaign, which should guarantee us a lot of excitement at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. Both teams are unbeaten in their last five games and will be looking to extend that run, but I would be really surprised if this match ends all squared.

Promising start

Having missed out on the top 4 finish last season, Sevilla are hoping to make things right this term and they seem to be on the right track. Despite the big squad changes in the summer, los Rojiblancos have started the season strongly, picking up 8 points from first 4 games. Not everything is perfect though seeing that the club have already been eliminated from Europe, while they have also displayed problems in their build up play. Important midfielder Ivan Rakitic missed the start of the season through injury and he is slowly being integrated back to the side, whereas attacking partnership Kanoute-Negredo is still not working properly. Sevilla could only score one goal in their last two games and there are no doubts they will have to show a big improvement in the scoring department if they want to beat high-flying Valencia.

Freddy Kanoute and Gary Medel should return to the starting line-up after being rested against Osasuna, while Ivan Rakitic and Diego Perotti are also pushing for starting places.

Valencia prove La Liga not a two-horse race

I have to say I was impressed with how well Valencia coped following departures of David Villa and David Silva, so Juan Manuel Mata was not expected to be sorely missed, especially with so many fresh talent arriving this summer. Adil Rami, Victor Ruiz and Sergio Canales have proved to be great additions, but it was coach Unai Emery who put everything together and turned Valencia into genuine title contenders. Following narrow wins over Racing, Atletico and Sporting, los Che proved their title credentials against arguably the best team in the world, having largely outplayed Barcelona at Mestalla. Despite twice taking the lead and Roberto Soldado missing an empty net, Valencia could only muster a 2:2 draw, but their fans can be delighted with how the team coped with mighty Barca. The players are now brimming with confidence before the Sevilla game and if they manage to produce another such performance, los Che will be in good stead to bring maximum points from Seville.

Jordi Alba is suspended after insulting the assistant referee in the Barca game, whereas David Albelda misses out through back injury.

Verdict

While Sevilla have done pretty well at the start of the season, I was thoroughly impressed with Valencia and I am confident los Che have what it takes to win this game. Unai Emery’s side are already on top of their game, which cannot be said of Sevilla and that is one of the reasons why you should back the visitors here.
