Novara vs Roma

With both Novara and Roma in desperate need of a win in order to get their Serie A campaign back on track, the odds are that we will see a very open game at Stadio Comunale in Novara. The hosts are winless in last seven games, whereas Roma enter the game on the back of two straight defeats, meaning both sides go into this game low on spirits.

One win from nine games

Newly promoted Novara were seen as one of the main candidates for the drop, but even if they sit in the relegation zone after nine rounds, they have shown a lot of potential in the opening exchanges of the season. However, team’s inexperience at the highest level is proving to be a big burden and a thing that could end up costing them Serie A survival. After beating Inter at home, Novara could not repeat the feat against Catania, Bologna and Siena, taking just two points from the three home games, so Roma players have no reason to fear Novara’s home form. The team are not only going through a rough patch at the moment, but they are also missing quite a few first team regulars through injury, and seeing that coach Attilio Tesser didn’t have such a big squad to begin with, the injury situation is clearly taking its toll on the results. The hosts have no choice but to try and win this game, but attacking approach could come back to haunt them as Roma can be lethal when afforded enough space.

Dellafiore, Paci, Lisuzzo, Ludi, Ujkani, Pinadri, Pesce and Rubino are all sidelined, which will be a big problem.

Roma continue to underperform

On paper, Roma boast one of the best squads in elite division, but with so many new players arriving this summer it is little wonder that boss Luis Enrique is struggling to get the best out of his side. The Giallorossi have been showing glimpses of quality in almost every single game so far, but they desperately need to find some consistency in order to start climbing the Serie A standings. Even if Roma have lost three out of last four league games, the team have been showing a lot of potential of late, especially since young Erik Lamela recovered from injury. The Giallorossi have had some problems with injuries of late, but with such a big squad to choose from, the absence of several squad players is hardly worrying. With so much attacking potential in the side and several very creative players in midfield, Roma look more than capable of scoring a couple past Novara, but their back line will also have to be alert if the Giallorossi are to win this game.

Totti, Lobont, Cicinho, Borini, Juan, Pizarro and Kjaer are likely to miss out, but Luis Enrique should be able to field a pretty strong side nonetheless.

Verdict

Novara are completely out of confidence and are missing quite a few first team regulars, so this is a perfect opportunity for Roma to record a much needed win on the travels. The Giallorossi have been punching below their weight and it is high time we saw a real performance from them.
