Inter vs Bologna

Inter have got to try and make amends for the embarrassing Europa League defeat to Tottenham, and see off Bologna if they want to remain in the race for Champions League places. Felsinei arrive at Giuseppe Meazza full of confidence following back to back wins over Fiorentina and Cagliari, so they will fancy their chances of getting something from this match.

Inter lack the strength in depth

Inter may have done really well to cope with all the problems this season and keep their results respectable, but it is slowly becoming clear that this squad lack the strength in depth. The Neroazzurri do have around 30 players in the squad following the heavy January recruitment, but the problem is more than half of them are not yet ready to be playing at this level. That was painfully evident in the 3-0 defeat to Tottenham, where the Neroazzurri looked absolutely pathetic after Andrea Stramaccioni opted to leave the likes of Guarin and Palacio on the bench. The team should look much better up front with the duo returning, especially as Schelotto and Kuzmanovic are also back, but with Samir Handanovic suspended and Samuel and Nagatomo still missing, their back line will have their work cut out for them against one of the best attacks in the league.

Samir Handanovic misses out through suspension, while Samuel, Milito, Silvestre, Nagatomo, Obi, Mudingayi and Castellazzi remain sidelined.

Bologna continue to impress

Unlike Inter, who were recording much better results than their performances warranted, Bologna largely struggled to turn their solid showings into points on the board. Felsinei were playing good football even when the squad were going through a transition period due to numerous changes in the summer, before seriously raising their game in the second part of the season. It was after the winter break that their results finally started to be in accordance with excellent showings, with the team looking really good over the last few weeks. Impressive home wins over Fiorentina and Cagliari further boosted the players’ confidence, meaning that Felsinei will not be afraid to attack Inter and take advantage of their opponents’ weaknesses. Having held Inter to a 2-2 draw at Giuseppe Meazza before losing in extra time in the Coppa Italia clash earlier this season, Bologna look a good bet to produce another solid display against the Neroazzurri.

Panagiotis Kone is out through suspension, but with Cesare Natali resuming full training, the infirmary is empty for the first time after quite a while.

Verdict

Inter have no choice but to go for a win here after such a disappointing result in midweek, and the Neroazzurri are expected to attack their opponents from the off, but their shaky back line will be further weakened by the absence of magnificent Samir Handanovic. There is every chance that attack-minded Bologna will manage to take advantage of that, which should guarantee us a high-scoring match at Giuseppe Meazza.
