Yannick Ferreira Carrasco set for China switch

Belgium international winger Yannick Ferreira Carrasco is one of the latest proofs of how quickly everything can change in football.

Having arrived from AS Monaco back in 2015, the 24-year-old international wasted no time in becoming one of the most exciting players for Los Colchineros, making 29 La Liga appearances in his maiden season with the Spanish club.

Things got even better for Carrasco the following year when he bagged ten La Liga goals in 35 outings, while also contributing with 2 goals in 12 Champions League matches.

This year, however, the Belgian’s playing time has been limited to only 900 minutes of first-team action in the Spanish top tier with Carrasco falling out of grace with Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone. The Belgian’s numerous sideline strops did not sit well with temperamental Atletico Madrid boss who is no longer counting on Carrasco.

The winger was heavily linked with a move away from Atleti this winter and it appears that he will be leaving the Spanish capital after all.

The Spanish media outlet Diario AS claims Carrasco is edging towards a China switch with Chinese Super League side Dalian Yifang offering €30 million to acquire his services this month. Atletico Madrid have reportedly given their nod to the Chinese side and Carrasco’s representatives are said to have already opened talks over a possible move.

Should Carrasco move to China, his former club AS Monaco will be pocketing 25% of the total transfer fee – € 7.5 million in total – as part of a future sale clause agreed back in 2015.

Carrasco’s move to China could be finalized as early as this week and for that reason, the player was excluded from Atletico Madrid’s squad for Thursday night’s Europa League clash against Copenhagen.

Atletico Madrid head into the match on the back of a comfortable 4-1 victory in the first leg and are given 1.90 (9/10) betting odds to Win to Nil.
