Mats Humme;sGermany have confirmed that Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels could miss the World Cup final against Argentina through injury.

The highly rated stopper was withdrawn at half-time in the semi-final clash against Brazil with the win already in the bag at the time.

But, while many believed Joachim Low had only wanted to rest his star player, Olivier Bierhoff has revealed that Hummels is carrying a knee injury.

“Everyone’s okay except for Mats Hummels and he’s getting further treatment,” the Germany team manager told ARD. “It’s a precautionary measure. We assume he’ll be able to play in the final.”

The player himself is also confident he will be able to take part in the final despite the injury.

“I made the decision that it’s perhaps better to take myself out so that I wouldn’t break anything.

“We’ll have to see exactly what it is. It’s not something tiny but fortunately I don’t think it’s anything that would endanger Sunday.”

After the stunning 7-1 triumph over hosts Brazil, Germany have been made 1.73 (8/11) favourites to lift the trophy at the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro.
