Republic of Ireland manager Martin O’Neill has moved to confirm that important midfielder Jeff Hendrick will miss the key qualifier against Serbia.

The Burnley star was unable to help the Irish against Georgia due to a thigh injury, but he trained individually after said game.

Nonetheless, it has now been revealed that Hedrick has failed to recover in time, making the job even more difficult for the hosts.

“He is still feeling it (the injury). He’ll miss out,” said O’Neill.

There are more worries for the head coach as fellow midfielders Wes Hoolahan (groin) and Aiden McGeady (Hamstring) are rated doubtful.

Republic of Ireland were utterly disappointing in the 1-1 draw against Georhia and the likes of Hendrick and Hoolahan were expected to be drafted into the side.

The Irish are available at 2.75 (7/4) to see off Serbia and return to the top of the standings, but we see much better value in 2.80 (9/5) odds offered on away win.
