Trailing second-placed Wales five points, Austria have all but lost all chances to reach the play-offs, but they will definitely want to win their final two games.

Serbia, on the other hand, need just one more win to secure an automatic qualifying berth, and they will attempt to record it in Wien.

Austria were pretty impressive in the Euro 2016 qualifiers and they also performed well at the tournament finals, despite crashing out in the group stage.

As a result, Das Team were tipped to continue the rich vein of form in the 2018 World Cup qualifying, but they utterly failed to do so.

Austria recorded just two wins from first eight games, thus effectively losing all chances to qualify for the tournament finals.

Das Team have been pretty disappointing of late, scoring just three goals in last four (D3 L1), and they also head into the Serbia game with a number of important missings.

David Alaba, Martin Harnik, Marcel Sabitzer, Martin Hinteregger, Alessandro Schopf and Sebastian Prodl all miss out through injury.

On the other hand, Valentin Lazaro, Florian Klein, Christoph Knasmullner and Philipp Schobesberger were called as replacements.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Lindner – Bauer, Danso, Dragovic, Lainer – Baumgartlinger, Grillitsch – Kainz, Schaub, Arnautovic – Burgstaller.

Serbia have defied the odds to climb to the Group D summit and they now have two match balls to secure automatic qualification.

The Eagles cemented the first place in the standings thanks to back to back wins over Moldova and Republic of Ireland, creating a four-point cushion at the top.

Serbia can now be backed at 2.15 (23/20) to defeat Austria on the road and book a ticket to Russia ahead of the final round of fixtures.

Head coach Slavoljub Muslin has faced some selection problems as both Jagos Vukovic and Uros Spajic were forced to withdraw through injury. Nikola Maksimovic is suspended.

Hamburg winger Filip Kostic has recovered from injury and could start, while Werder Bremen defender Milos Vejlkovic is the only uncapped player in the squad.

Probable starting line-up (3-4-2-1): Stojkovic – Ivanovic, S. Mitrovic, Nastasic – Rukavina, Milivojevic, Matic, Kolarov – Ljajic, Tadic – A. Mitrovic.
