Argentina boss Alejandro Sabella has received a major boost as key midfielder Angel Di Maria stepped up his recovery from a though injury.
The Real Madrid star took part in Thursday’s training session, although he worked with team physios away from the rest of the squad.
Nonetheless, this is enough to suggest that Di Maria could play a part in Sunday’s World Cup final, where Argentina are 2.25 (5/4) to lift the trophy.
The highly rated footballer picked up the injury as he took a shot on goal during the quarter-final fixture against Belgium and in turn missed the semi-final win over Netherlands.
But, having established himself as a main creative outlet alongside Lionel Messi, Di Maria will be sorely missed if he fails to recover in time for the final.
Benfica star Enzo Perez did a good job in replacing him against both Belgium and Netherlands, but everybody in the national team will want to see Di Maria ready to feature against red-hot Germany.
