Nigeria vs Argentina

Wednesday’s World Cup action comes from Sao Paolo, where the Netherlands face Argentina in a repeat of the 1978 final.

The winners of Brazil vs Germany will be waiting for face the victors in Sunday’s final, while both defeated semi-finalists will face each other in the third and fourth place play-off twenty-four hours earlier.

The Netherlands needed penalties to get past the tournament’s surprise package Costa Rica in Salvador on Saturday, after the teams played out a goalless 120 minutes.

Leroy Fer is a doubt for the game after picking up a hamstring injury, while Nigel de Jong has been ruled out of the tournament with a groin problem.

Robin van Perise is priced at 7.5 (13/2) to get the first goal of the game with a variety of firms, with Arjen Robben widely available at 8.0 (7/1).

Louis van Gaal’sid can be easily found at a price of 3.4 (12/5) to win the match in ninety minutes, with Argentina favourites at 2.45 (29/20) with Bet Victor. The draw is 3.2 (11/5) with most bookmakers.

Gonzalo Higuain’s eighth minute strike was enough to see the South Americans edge past Belgium in the last round, and the two time winners are now favourites to win tournament outright having moved above hosts Brazil in the market.

Angel Di Maria will miss the game with a thigh injury, but Sergio Aguero has declared himself fit and Marcos Rojo returns from suspension.

Lionel Messi is unsurprisingly favourite to open the scoring at 5.0 (4/1) with most firms, with Higuain an 8.0 (7/1) chance with William Hill.

The Netherlands are haven’t lost to Argentina since the final in Buenos Aires thirty-six years ago, winning two and drawing two of the four meetings between the sides since.

However, with Alejandro Sabella’s side favourites you may be tempted to back them to win by a single goal, like they have in each of the five games at the tournament so far.

Argentina are 4.3 (33/10) to win by that margin in ninety minutes with Ladbrokes, while the same firm offer a price of 7.0 (6/1) for them to win 1-0 for what would be the third time in four games.
