witselHaving been heavily linked with the Serie A champions over the summer, Belgium international midfielder Axel Witsel is confident he will make a move to Juventus in 2017 – either in January or in June.

The 27-year-old was pursued by the Old Lady earlier this year, but a transfer from Zenit feel through as the Russians were unwilling to let their midfielder go.

Witsel however is convinced that it is just a matter of time before he joins up with the Bianconeri, according to the Italian media outlet Corriere dello Sport.

“I will join Juventus. That will be the case. Right now I just do not know when”, Witsel was quoted.

Axel Witsel’s contract with the Russian giants is expiring in June 2017 but Juventus are thought to be willing to come back for the Belgian during winter, rather than waiting to snap him on a free transfer.

The Italians are hoping that Zenit will be keen to sell their key man in order to avoid losing him without any financial compensation.

As a highly intelligent player, Axel Witsel’s tactical knowledge allows him to adapt to different systems which is one of the reasons Juventus remain keen on him.

With PSG playmaker Marco Verratti unavailable, the Old Lady turned their focus to Witsel’s firmly believing his versatility could provide Max Allegri with great asset and tactical alternative. Juventus have lost their talisman midfielder Paul Pogba during summer and it is also believed that Alex Witsel could be a direct replacement for the French player.

The industrious Belgium midfielder, who helped Zenit to the Russian Premier League title in 2014-15, joined the Russian outfit in 2012 and has already amassed more than 115 appearances for the club.

At the same time, Witsel has been capped 76 times by his country with Belgium new head coach Roberto Martinez already expressing his admiration for the charismatic midfielder.

Axel Witsel is likely to be given a run in tomorrow’s international friendly between the Netherlands and Belgium, the Red Devils are given 2.40 (7/5) @StanJames to win at the Amsterdam ArenA.
