Augustin DavilaPremier League outfit Liverpool have fond memories of the last time they had a Uruguayan striker in their ranks.

Luis Suarez remains one of the most prolific Liverpool strikers in club’s modern era, but the Anfield-based side are hoping they have found his potential successor in the name of Augustin Davila.

The 17-year-old Uruguay striker plays for Atletico Penarol is his native country, where he widely impressed by scoring over 100 goals at youth level.

His formidable form has earned him a two-week trial, according to Daily Mail, with Liverpool’s academy director Alex Inglethorpe being assigned of assessing the teenager’s potential.

Augustin Davila arrived in England on Saturday and joined up with Liverpool players at Kirkby, where he will be closely monitored on trial basis after which the Reds will decide whether the highly prolific Uruguay sensation is up to the standards expected on Merseyside.

Liverpool have had plenty of struggles in attack department lately with the likes of Christian Benteke, who has been loaded off to Crystal Palace, and with misfiring Daniel Sturridge, who is widely expected to be the next striker to be given a boot.

Roberto Firmino remains the first-team option, with Divock Origi serving as his replacement and Liverpool have apparently decided to invest their resources in finding a promising long-term solution.

Davila is a long way of being mentioned as Luis Suarez’s successor, but there is an inevitable sense of expectation when it comes to players coming from South America and Davila’s numbers are there to only support Liverpool’s ambitious and forward thinking.

The 17-year-old Uruguay striker has represented his nation at both U15 and U17 levels and will be hoping to impress on Merseyside during the next two weeks.

In the meantime, Liverpool are preparing for their next challenge after the disappointing Monday night derby against Manchester United.

The Reds are preparing to welcome West Brom on Saturday and are looking at the betting odds of 1.87 (20/23) @Coral to grab a HT/FT win and get back to winning ways after a frustrating goalless draw against Red Devils.
