spurs-vs-monacoIn-form Tottenham will host fellow high flyers Monaco at Wembley as their White Hart Lane is being redeveloped, and it remains to be seen whether Spurs can win on their return to the Champions League.

The Principality club are searching for their sixth triumph in all competitions and they arrive in London brimming with confidence.

Following several disappointing campaigns, Tottenham Hotspur finally impressed last season and even though they ultimately failed to lift the Premier League trophy, they did enough to secure a place in the Champions League group stages.

Spurs have had a pretty good start to the new campaign, defeating Crystal Palace and Stoke City while sharing spoils with Merseyside rivals, so they head into the Monaco game in good spirits.

Tottenham are coming off their best performance in the opening exchanges, with 4-0 triumph over Stoke City likely to seriously improve the dressing room atmosphere.

Spurs now return to the Champions League after a five year absence, and it is important to note that they failed to score a single goal in last two home games in CL.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino welcomes back star midfielder Moussa Dembele from domestic suspension, but it remains to be seen whether he will slot straight into the starting line-up.

Full-back Danny Rose faces a fitness test as he battles an injury, but there are no other selection worries for the Argentine.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Lloris – Walker, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies – Dier, Dembele – Eriksen, Alli, Lamela – Kane.

Monaco owner Dmytry Rybolovlev realised that money cannot buy success and surprisingly decided to completely change the club’s recruitment strategy, but that proved one of his best decisions ever.

It was only after they got rid of most high earners that the Principality club began to shine, and new coach Leonardo Jardim also had a major role to play.

Some shrewd transfer dealings paid off big time as Monaco secured Champions League qualification through league finish, before getting past Fenerbahce and Villarreal to reach the group phase.

The French giants have been on fire of late, winning five straight games on all fronts and they can now be backed at 5.25 (17/4) to win at Wembley as well.

Buoyed by back to back wins over PSG (3-1) and Lille (4-1), Monaco arrive in England in excellent spirits and looking to make it 7 wins in last 9 CL fixtures.

They will probably have to make do without Danijel Subasic and Benjamin Mendy, but Radamel Falcao and Thomas Lemar are back in contention.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): De Sanctis – Raggi, Glik, Jemerson, Sidibe – Fabinho, Bakayoko – Dirar, Moutinho, Bernardo Silva – Germain.
