Sutjeska vs Sheriff preview

Sheriff vs SutjeskaMontenegrin champions Sutjeska are in a good position to qualify after holding Sheriff to a 1-1 draw in Moldova, but their more illustrious opponents, nonetheless, remain the favourites to go through.

Having finished the 2011/2012 league campaign in 8th place, huge 46 points behind champions Buducnost, the team from Niksic were not really considered as one of the title contenders last term.

However, Dragan Radojicic’s men started the new league championship strongly, never looked back and managed to produce quite a coup by lifting the league trophy.

The team have since stayed without important players Djordjije Cetkovic and Djordje Susnjar, while the club failed to sign any high-profile players.

Sutjeska were, therefore, predicted a tough European campaign, but they took advantage of Sheriff’s problem to record an excellent result in Moldova and are now playing for a chance to meet Dinamo Zagreb in the next round.

The hosts are 2.50 (3/2) with Paddy Power to qualify, which is enough to suggest they are in for a difficult task in the return leg.

New signing Srdjan Radonjic is not eligible to face Sheriff, but at least there are no fresh injury worries for boss Radojicic.

Probable starting line-up (4-5-1): Janjusevic – Becelic, Cukovic, Ognjanovic, Stijepovic – Nikolic, D. Karadzic – Stevovic, Pejovic, Jovovic – Isidorovic.

Having been the dominant force in Moldova for a while now, Sheriff have been gaining European experience over the years and they finally look ready for an assault on the Champions League group stages.

After winning another league title in style, club chiefs did really well to attract some high-quality players to the side, and the team were obviously regarded as hot favourites to beat Sutjeska.

Sheriff indeed dominated the game and earned a deserved lead just before the half-time break, but they missed a host of clear-cut chances either way of an unlucky equalizer from the visitors.

Even if it was clear that new signings will need some more time to gel, the champions of Moldova proved they have more than enough quality to make it through to the next stage, and they are 2.00 (1/1) with Sportingbet to win in Niksic.

The visitors should profit from having another seven days to work together, especially since the new coach was appointed just before the Sutjeska game, while the fact there are no injury worries is likely to help as well.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Stajila – Metoua, Samardzic, Thuram, Paye – Stanojevic, Fernando – Ricardinho, Cadu, Luvannor – Markovski.
