Shakhtar Donetsk vs Chelsea preview

Despite taking four points each from their first two group games, both Shakhtar and Chelsea have got to try and get something from this match, considering that Juventus should have an easy job against Nordsjaelland.

The Ukrainian giants have been on the constant uptrend ever since wealthy businessman Rinat Akhmetov purchased the club more than ten years ago.

While doing well on the domestic stage, the Miners have struggled to fulfill their potential in Europe, but the team have been showing a lot of promise this season.

Following the comfortable home win over Nordsjaelland, Mircea Lucescu’s side completely outplayed mighty Juventus in Turin and were very unfortunate not to get more than one point from the game.

Taking also into account that Shakhtar have won 15 of 16 competitive games this season, odds of 2.62 (13/8) offered at William Hill on home win do look tempting.

With no fresh injuries to report, boss Mirceal Lucescu is likely to stick to the side that impressed against Juventus three weeks ago.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Pyatov – Srna, Kucher, Rakitskiy, Rat – Fernandinho, Hubschman – Willian, Mkhitaryan, Alex Teixeira – Luiz Adriano.

Reining Champions League winners continue to prove last year’s success was no accident, with Roberto Mancini’s side doing really well in both England and Europe.

The 4-2 Premier League victory over rivals Tottenham Hotspur saw the Blues create a four-point cushion at the league summit and further improved the atmosphere in the squad ahead of the crunch tie against Shakhtar Donetsk.

Roberto Di Matteo’s side may not have been on top of their game in the home draw with Juventus, but the 4-0 away win over Nordsjaelland helped the return to the right track.

Having won last six games in all competitions, Chelsea are now 3.00 (2/1) with Stan James to make it seven in a row.

John Terry is likely to return from a domestic ban, but the rest of the team that hammered Tottenham at White Hart Lane should remain unchanged.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Cech – Ivanovic, Terry, Luiz, Cole – Ramires, Mikel – Mata, Oscar, Hazard – Torres.
