Sevilla vs Leicester City preview

Despite finishing the group stage in second place, Sevilla couldn’t have hoped for more favourable draw as the only think standing between them and a place in the quarter-finals is largely disappointing Leicester City side.

The Foxes are currently fighting for their lives in the same Premier League they won last season, and it remains to be seen whether they can show some improvement at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

After winning three straight Europa League trophies, Sevilla are determined to make their mark in the Champions League this season.

Los Rojiblancos did well to progress to the next stage, but they were quite fortunate to be drawn alongside Leicester City, a team that are going through a very rough patch at the moment.

This means that Sevilla have been made 1.40 (2/5) favourites to win the first leg and they look a good bet to create a serious advantage ahead of the return match.

Los Rojiblancos have kept three clean sheets in a row, defeating Las Palmas and Eibar after the goalless draw with Villarreal, so they are in pretty good spirits at the moment.

January recruit Stevan Jovetic has proved to be an excellent signing for the club as he has now assisted for both goals against Eibar, and he is expected to keep his place.

Argentine defender Gabriel Mercado is banned, whereas Benoit Tremoulinas, Nico Pareja and Michael Krohn-Dehli are out injured.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Rico – Mariano, Rami, Lenglet, Escudero – Vitolo, Nasri, N’Zonzi, Vazquez – Ben Yedder, Jovetic.

Nobody knows what has happened to the team that dominated arguably the strongest league competition in the world as Leicester City have been simply woeful this term.

The Foxes sit just one point above the bottom three after the run of five successive defeats in the league and it is clear that the players are very low on confidence.

The FA Cup triumph over Derby County clearly made no difference as Leicester City have since been beaten by Swansea and 10-man Millwall, so chances are they will be dreading the trip to Andalucia.

It appears that not even the key men are capable of turning things around and with Premier League survival clearly the priority at the moment, they are unlikely to be fully focused on the Sevilla game.

That does not mean that manager Claudio Ranieri will not field his strongest side on Wednesday evening, but having failed to score in four of their last five away games, the Foxes clearly have little to hope for.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-1-1): Schmeichel – Simpson, Morgan, Huth, Fuchs – Mahrez, Drinkwater, Ndidi, Albrighton – Slimani – Vardy.
