Samir NasriManchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has revealed that star midfielder Samir Nasri could be in contention to face Barcelona in the Champions League knockout stages.

The Frenchman picked up a knee ligament injury in the 2-0 triumph over Newcastle exactly one month ago, and he has recovered some four weeks ahead of schedule.

Nasri trained ahead of Wednesday’s clash against Sunderland, where City are 1.20 (1/5) favourites for the win, but that match obviously comes too soon for him.

Manuel Pellegrini has, nevertheless, suggested that the 26-year-old could play some part in weekend’s game against Chelsea as well as face Barcelona one week from now.

“Nasri and Javi Garcia started training today with the squad, we will see in the rest of the week if they can be fit for Saturday.

We will see in the next few days, up until Saturday. I think there is a chance (of them making the Barcelona game).”

Manchester City host Barcelona in the first leg of the Champions League Last 16 stage tie, with the Citizens 2.75 (7/4) to win the first leg.
