Atletico vs RealReal Madrid missed several good chances to win the first leg at Vicente Calderon and now start from scratch, looking for the first win in eighth meeting with Atletico this season.

Los Colchoneros were far from impressive in the first match, but they are aware that any scoring draw or a win would take them into the semi-finals.

The next few weeks will determine whether this season will become a success or not, as los Blancos could end up winning two major trophies or missing out on both of these.

Things are not looking too good at the moment seeing as Real sit two points behind arch rivals Barcelona in the league standings, while they face plenty of problems ahead of the return leg against Atletico Madrid.

Los Blancos might live to regret all those missed chances at Vicente Calderon as they enter the second match with several star players missing.

However, the bookies seem to believe they can, nonetheless, qualify for the semis and have made them 1.67 (2/3) favourites to do so.

Carlo Ancelotti could be without up to four first team regulars when facing Atletico considering that Luka Modric and Gareth Bale have already been ruled out.

Marcelo is banned, whilst Karim Benzema is a major doubt with a knee problem, and everything suggests Javier Hernandez will start instead.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Casillas – Carvajal, Pepe, Ramos, Coentrao – Isco, Kroos, Illarramendi, Rodriguez – Hernandez, Ronaldo.

Atletico Madrid had to deal with increased expectations this term after largely impressing last season, and we can safely say Diego Simeone’s charges have coped really well with everything thrown their way.

Los Colchoneros were unable to mount a serious title challenge in La Liga, but should have no problems finishing behind Barca and Real in the overall standings.

Meanwhile, Atletico largely impressed to reach the Champions League quarter-finals and now have an excellent chance to get revenge on their local rivals for the loss in last year’s final.

With the likes of Modric, Bale and Benzema likely to be sorely missed and los Colchoneros unbeaten in last seven matches against Real, there may be value in odds of 2.35 (27/20) offered on Atletico to qualify.

Diego Simeone will have Mario Mandzukic back to the side after recovering from an ankle problem and the Croat is expected to start.

Mario Suarez is banned, while Jan Oblak will keep his place in the side after becoming the hero in the first leg seven days ago.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Oblak – Juanfran, Miranda, Godin, Siqueira – Turan, Gabi, Tiago, Koke – Mandzukic, Griezmann.
