Manchester City vs PSG preview

PSG vs MonacoManchester City did well to earn a 2-2 draw at Parc des Princes, meaning they are now favourites to make it to the semi-finals.

However, the Citizens cannot afford to relax just yet, as many believe that PSG are superior to them in terms of quality and Champions League experience.

Manchester City utterly failed to mount a serious title challenge in English Premier League and they have yet to secure a top 4 finish.

But, the Citizens did pretty well in other competitions, lifting the Capital One Cup trophy, while being on the verge of Champions League semi-finals.

The reality is that team’s chances of silverware were seriously damaged by Vincent Kompany’s injury struggles, as his back-ups have been pretty disappointing most of the time.

This is why Manuel Pellegrini is seriously thinking about using the Belgium captain against PSG despite the fact that he is not fully fit.

Argentine defender Nicolas Otamendi is rated doubtful after suffering an injury at the weekend, and chances are the manager doesn’t want to use calamitous Martin Demichelis in such an important game.

The good news is that Sergio Aguero has shaken off a minor knock, while Yaya Toure, Kevin De Bruyne and Fernandinho should be recalled.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Hart – Sagna, Kompany, Mangala, Clichy – Fernando, Fernandinho – De Bruyne, Toure, Silva – Aguero.

Paris Saint-Germain have been making giant strides in recent years, but the Champions League quarter-finals have proved to be a very difficult obstacle.

After crashing out at said stage three times in a row, the Saints are desperate to eliminate Manchester City and make it to the last four, but they did not exactly impress in the first leg.

PSG dominated possession and missed a penalty in the 2-2 draw, with both sides conceding some very cheap goals in what was a strange CL fixture.

Laurent Blanc will want his players to do much better in the return leg and we believe there is good value in backing the Saints to qualify at 2.38 (11/8).

The good news is that Marco Verratti and Javier Pastore have resumed training, although the Argentine is not expected to feature.

David Luiz and Blaise Matuidi are both suspended, but first choice keeper Kevin Trapp has shaken off a minor knock and is fit to play.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Trapp – van der Wiel, Thiago Silva, Marquinhos, Maxwell – Verratti, Motta, Rabiot – Di Maria, Ibrahimovic, Cavani.
