Gyori ETO vs Maccabi Tel Aviv preview

Gyori ETO vs DebrecenHungarian champions Gyori ETO face an uphill task in their first ever Champions League game, with Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv on the other side.

The club from Gyor have been making steady progress over the last couple of years, and they finally managed to win their fourth league title last term, exactly 20 years since their last league trophy.

Attila Pinter’s side won the competition in style, finishing ten points above second-placed Videoton and now it’s time to turn their focus towards the European campaign.

Gyori are not exactly without European experience, having eliminated Nitra, Atyrau and Montpellier in the 2010/2011 Europa League qualifiers before losing to Dinamo Zagreb in the play-offs.

The team are obviously hoping they will go one step further this time out and they appear to be well prepared for the Maccabi game.

After reinforcing the squad with Rafe Wolfe and Leandro Martinez, Gyori won the Hungarian Super Cup by beating very good Debrecen side 3-0, and they are 2.60 (8/5) with Coral to continue the winning run.

While boss Attila Pinter will not be able to sit in the dugout due to a two-match ban, he will be able to choose from a fully fit squad.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Kamenar – Wolfe, Djordjevic, Lang, Dinjar – Trajkovic, Kamber, Mevoungou – Koltai, Varga, Andric.

The only club in Israel that have never dropped out of the top flight needed no less than ten years to win their 20th league title, but the long wait was finally over last term.

Maccabi haven’t exactly prepared well for what awaits them in Champions League qualifiers, with first choice keeper Vincent Enyeama and top scorer Eliran Atar moving to French Ligue 1.

Meanwhile, they have signed defender Mane from Getafe and veteran keeper Juan Pablo from Sporting Gijon, while bringing Omri Ben Harush from Maccabi Netanya.

Paulo Sousa’s side have been far from impressive in pre-season friendlies, scoring just several goals in the process, so no doubt they will use a defence-minded approach in Hungary.

The boss knows his next opponents well having spent almost two seasons at Videoton, and it remains to be seen whether this will help his side record a positive result.

Maccabi are 3.20 (11/5) with bet365 to win this match, with defender Yoav Ziv the only injury doubt after sustaining a head injury.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Pablo – Yeini, Fideleff, Tibi, Ziv – Alberman, Radi – E. Zahavi, Micha, Ben Haim – Prica.
