Celtic vs Barcelona preview

Celtic vs BarcelonaCeltic will be hoping for the repeat of last year’s 3-2 victory over Barcelona when they host the Catalans on Tuesday evening, while the absence of Lionel Messi could hinder the Catalans’ chances of making amends for the aforementioned defeat.

Despite eliminating Cliftonville and Elfsborg with relative ease, the Bhoys had to work hard for a place in the Champions League group stages, having lost 2-0 to Shakhter Karagandy in the play-off first leg.

Neil Lennon’s side then produced quite a coup by winning the return leg 3-0, but they were in turn placed into a very difficult group.

Even so, Celtic played really well in their opening match at San Siro, but ended up losing 2-0 after conceding two late goals.

While winning six of first seven SPL fixtures, the Bhoys suffered an embarrassing exit from the League Cup as they were beaten at home by Greenock Morton.

However, having returned to winning ways with a 5-2 away triumph over Kilmarnock, Celtic are 9.00 (8/1) with 888sport to defeat Barcelona one more time.

Apart from long-term casualty Steven Mouyokolo, Neil Lennon has no other selection worries before the Barcelona match.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Forster – Lustig, Van Dijk, Ambrose, Izaguirre – Brown, Matthews, Mulgrew, Commons – Stokes, Samaras.

Barcelona go into the Celtic game looking to get revenge for last year’s 3-2 defeat at Parkhead, and the Catalans clearly arrive in Glasgow in great spirits.

The Catalans have just recorded a seventh straight victory in the league to break another record, and no doubt they are the hot favourites here.

After hammering Ajax 4-0 in the first group game, the Camp Nou outfit are 1.40 (2/5) at William Hill to extend their winning run.

Argentine superstar Lionel Messi is likely to be sorely missed as he is set to miss two to three weeks of action with a hamstring strain.

Meanwhile, Jordi Alba, Javier Mascherano and Carles Puyol continue to miss out, which has seen Gerardo Martino call Sergi Gomez and Patric from the B squad.

Even with some key men missing, Tata Martino will be able to field a very strong squad in Glasgow, with Xavi and Neymar likely to be recalled.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Valdes – Alves, Pique, Bartra, Adriano – Xavi, Busquets, Iniesta – Neymar, Sanchez, Pedro.
