spurs-vs-monacoFollowing back to back draws against CSKA Moscow and Monaco, Bayer Leverkusen will be eager to record the first win of the campaign this week.

Meanwhile, Spurs made amends for the opening defeat by beating the Russian giants and they head to Bay Arena in good spirits.

Bayer Leverkusen have been the best of the rest in German Bundesliga for quite some time, but it doesn’t look as though they will be able to challenge Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund any time soon.

On the other hand, die Werkself have been regular in the UEFA Champions League, often reaching the knockout stages, but the current campaign didn’t have the best of starts.

Bayer Leverkusen could only muster a 2-2 draw at home vs CSKA Moscow as they squandered a two-goal lead, but they then came really close to beating Monaco away.

However, the late goal by Kamil Glik denied what would have been an important win, and now they have to try and beat Tottenham Hotspur instead.

The international break did not have the desired effect on the team as they were beaten by Werder Bremen, although they are unbeaten in last ten competitive fixtures at Bay Arena (W7 D3).

Karim Bellarabi, Joel Phjanpalo and Victor Yurchenko continue to miss out for the hosts, but Julian Baumgartlinger and Admir Mehmedi could be recalled.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Leno – Bender, Tah, Toprak, Henrichs – Brandt, Aranguiz, Kampl, Calhanoglu – Hernandez, Mehmedi.

Tottenham Hotspur returned to the Champions League after a lengthy absence and they are determined to make the most of the opportunity.

Spurs had a pretty disappointing start, losing at home to Monaco, but the narrow win over CSKA Moscow ensured they returned to the right track.

And having recorded several very good results on domestic stage, including the 2-0 triumph over leaders Manchester City, Tottenham arrive in Leverkusen high on confidence.

Spurs salvaged one point at the Hawthorns last weekend as Dele Alli scored in the dying moments of the match and they are now 3.50 (5/2) to win at Bay Arena.

The visitors will have to make do without Belgian defender Toby Alderweireld, who picked up a knee injury at the weekend and will be out for at least several weeks.

The good news is that key striker Harry Kane is expected to resume training with the squad, but he will not be risked against Leverkusen.

Probable starting line-up (4-1-4-1): Lloris – Trippier, Dier, Vertonghen, Davies – Wanyama – Sissoko, Eriksen, Alli, Lamela – Son.
