With Benfica likely to secure the first place in the group with a home win over Otelul, Basel and Manchester United are going to fight for the second place in the knockout stages.

The Swiss side need to beat their more illustrious opponents in order to qualify, whereas United can go through even with one point from this clash.

Not too many people believed that Basel would be able to challenge sides like Manchester United and Benfica for the top two places in the group, but the Swiss side have done really well to get where they are at the moment.

After beating Otelul in their opening game, the Swiss came really close to shocking United at their Old Trafford, but eventually had to settle for one point as they conceded in the dying moments of the match.

Home defeat to Benfica didn’t prove to be too costly as they returned to the running with away victory over Otelul and can now make a historic success by beating Manchester United. Home win pays 7.00 (6/1) at Stan James.

Valentin Stocker returned into action following a lengthy spell on the sidelines, but Benjamin Huggel, Gilles Yapi Yapo, Kay Voser and Taulant Xhaka are all sidelined.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Sommer – Steinhofer, Abraham, Dragovic, Park – Shaqiri, Cabral, G. Xhaka, F. Frei – A. Frei, Streller.

Following the bright start to the season, Manchester United have started to struggle and they will now have to work hard in order to avoid the embarrassment of missing out on the group stages.

In all fairness, the Red Devils should have ensured their place in the next stage after the Benfica game, but despite creating a host of clear-cut chances they could only muster a 2:2 draw with the Eagles.

After that game, Sir Alex Ferguson’s side suffered two more slip ups at home, as they were eliminated from the Carling Cup by Crystal Palace before failing to beat Newcastle in the Premiership.

United managed to return to winning ways with a narrow victory at Villa Park and they are now 1.62 (8/13) with 188BET to beat Basel as well.

Nemanja Vidic is available again after serving a two-match ban, but now Michael Carrick is suspended. Rio Ferdinand is doubtful after being forced to come off against Aston Villa, whereas Javier Hernandez, Anderson and Tom Cleverley are all sidelined.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): De Gea – Fabio, Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra – Fletcher, Jones – Nani, Rooney, Young – Welbeck.
