Villarreal vs Real Madrid preview

Villarreal vs Real MadridIconic stadium El Madrigal seems the perfect stage for Gareth Bale, the world’s most expensive footballer, to be handed his Real Madrid debut, but los Blancos are aware they will not have an easy job against the team that have yet to drop points this season.

Following the unexpected relegation to Segunda, Villarreal did well to ensure a straight return to the elite division, before quickly showing what La Liga had missed the previous year.

And while the Yellow Submarine were somewhat fortunate to win their opening fixture at Almeria, triumphs over Real Valladolid and Osasuna proved that survival is not the only thing on their minds.

Even if Villarreal won’t be able to remain in Champions League places for much longer, they will certainly be looking to build on the impressive start to the season, as well as turn their El Madrigal into a real fortress.

The mere fact home win pays 6.00 (5/1) at Stan James suggests Marcelino’s men have a chance of upsetting their more illustrious opponents, although there is much better value in backing both teams to score, at 1.57 (4/7) offered at Ladbrokes.

With Bojan Jokic resuming full training during the international break, the boss has absolutely no selection worries at the moment.

However, he faces a welcoming selection headache after Uche, Pina and Dos Santos all made an impact from the bench in the 3-0 victory at Osasuna.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Asenjo – Mario, Musaccio, Dorado, Jaume Costa – Cani, Bruno, Trigueros, Aquino – Pereira, Dos Santos.

The general impression is Real Madrid haven’t really impressed at the start of the season, although they did well to keep the 100% record intact.

Following hard-fought triumphs over Real Betis, Granada and Athletic Bilbao, the international break came at the right time, although with so many players away on international duty, Carlo Ancelotti couldn’t really work on helping the team gel.

Since the 3-1 victory over Athletic Bilbao, los Blancos have done two major pieces of business, selling star midfielder Mesut Ozil to Arsenal and finally completing the deal for Gareth Bale, making him world’s most expensive player.

Seeing as how the Welshman has done very little training this summer, he is almost certain to be left on the bench, although he could be introduced later on.

Bale is 2.25 (5/4) with Betfred to score at El Madrigal, while Real Madrid are 1.62 (5/8) at Coral to record their fourth victory in a row.

Isco, Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos, Pepe and Sami Khedira have all shaken off minor knocks, but Raphael Varane, Xabi Alonso and Fabio Coentrao remain sidelined.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Lopez – Arbeloa, Ramos, Pepe, Marcelo – Modric, Khedira – Di Maria, Isco, Ronaldo – Benzema.
