Sevilla vs Celta Vigo preview

With Atletico Madrid suffering an unexpected defeat in midweek, Sevilla now have a chance to go level on points with los Colchoneros if they defeat Celta Vigo.

The Sky Blues will be looking to show some improvement after losing three of last four, despite the fact that their Europa League campaign has the priority at the moment.

As head coach Jorge Sampaoli continues to be heavily linked with a vacant position in the Argentina national team, Sevilla are slowly recovering from the most disappointing period of the season.

A six-match winless run that saw the team score mere three goals is now behind them as victories over Deportivo La Coruna and Granada seriously improved the dressing room atmosphere.

After Atletico Madrid were beaten by Villarreal, Sevilla can now revive their top 3 hopes and edge closer to an automatic Champions League berth, and they are 1.40 (2/5) to defeat Celta Vigo on Thursday.

It was somewhat forgotten Brazilian Ganso who proved the hero against Granada, scoring both goals for his team, and he is likely to keep his place in the side.

Key midfielder Vitolo is stepping up his recovery from injury and he may play a part, while Nico Pareja is back in contention as well.

Samir Nasri missed some training due to a mild migraine, but he is expected to face Celta Vigo, probably replacing Iborra in the starting line-up.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-1-2): Rico – Mariano, Pareja, Mercado, Escudero – Nasri, N’Zonzi, Sarabia – Ganso – Correa, Jovetic.

Celta Vigo didn’t quite manage to impress in this year’s La Liga campaign, but they still stand a decent chance of achieving a top table finish.

Meanwhile, the Sky Blues are enjoying a highly successful Europa League campaign, with Manchester United now standing between them and a place in the final.

Celta Vigo have so far eliminated Shakhtar Donetsk, FK Krasnodar and Racing Genk on the road to the semi-finals, but they’ve got another two league games before the first leg against Man Utd.

With a full focus on their European campaign, nobody was surprised to see the Sky Blues lose three of last four league fixtures, but they will attempt to show some improvement when facing Sevilla.

A number of first team regulars will be recalled after they were rested against Real Betis, but Marc Planas misses out through a knee injury.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Alvarez – Mallo, Roncaglia, Fontas, Jonny – Diaz, Radoja – Aspas, Wass, Sisto – Beauvue.
