Real Sociedad vs Villarreal preview

Having enjoyed a winning start to the new La Liga campaign, Real Sociedad will attempt to continue in the same manner when they welcome Villarreal to their Anoeta.

The Yellow Submarine, on the other hand, need to try and make amends for the 1-0 loss to Levante, having conceded a penalty late into the game.

Real Sociedad were in fine form for large periods of last season, even climbing to top 4 midway through and they ended the campaign in respectable sixth position, securing an automatic Europa League berth.

La Real have since stayed without Esteban Granero and Yuri, while recruiting Adnan Januzaj and Diego Llorente, so it is fair to say the squad didn’t suffer too many changes.

That was probably the reason why Real Sociedad performed reasonably well in pre-season and enjoyed a good start to the new La Liga campaign.

La Real were a goal down going into the final stages of the game against Celta Vigo, but they managed to score two late goals and secured a morale-boosting victory.

Real Sociedad have now been made 23/20 favourites to see off Villarreal, and there may be good value in those odds.

Inigo Martinez and Adnan Januzaj are stepping up their recovery from injury, but they are unlikely to be available, whereas Ruben Pardo should be in contention.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Rulli – Odriozola, Navas, Elustondo, Rodrigues – Prieto, Illarramendi, Zurutuza – Vela, Willian Jose, Oyarzabal.

Villarreal narrowly missed out on a top 4 finish in La Liga last term, and they now hope to make things right this season.

The Yellow Submarine did see Roberto Soldado, Jonathan dos Santos and Mateo Musacchio leave for greener pastures, but they also made some great signings.

In came Carlos Bacca, Andres Fernandes, Ruben Semedo, Enes Unal and Pablo Fornals among others, so the team definitely look stronger than last year.

However, Fran Escriba may need a while to integrate new players into his squad, as witnessed by the opening defeat to Levante.

Villarreal did concede the only goal of the game from a questionable penalty late on, but their own performance was not exactly impressive anyway.

Roberto Soriano continues to miss out through a knee problem, while Bruno, Asenjo, Cheryshev, Bonera, Adrian Marin are Mario also sidelined. Cedric Bakambu and Samu Castillejo return from suspension.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Fernandez – Rukavina, Gonzalez, Ruiz, Jaume Costa – Fornals, Hernandez, Trigueros, Sansone – Bakambu, Unal.
