Having already missed out on two major trophies, Barcelona cannot afford any more slip-ups and they need to secure the Copa del Rey trophy.

Looking to cause a major upset will be Deportivo Alaves, one of La Liga’s surprise packages that finished the campaign in the top half of the standings.

This is one season Barcelona players and fans will be looking to forget as quickly as possible, as they were forced to see arch rivals Real Madrid lift the league trophy and also reach the Champions League final for the second successive season.

Recent triumph at Santiago Bernabeu will serve as a little comfort as not even the five successive triumphs that followed proved enough to secure the coveted trophy.

But, at least Barcelona will be able to enter the Copa del Rey final against Alaves in good spirits, and they have been made 2/11 favourites to win the match in ninety minutes.

It is now clear that Luis Enrique will not be in a position to field his strongest side on Sunday, as both Luis Suarez and Sergi Roberto are banned.

Jasper Cillessen and Paco Alcacer are certain to start against Alaves, while it remains to be seen who will start at right-back.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Cillessen – Gomes, Pique, Umtiti, Alba – Rakitic, Busquets, Iniesta – Messi, Alcacer, Neymar.

Deportivo Alaves is without a doubt the surprise package of the 2016/2017 La Liga campaign and they now aim to make their mark in Copa del Rey as well.

Even though many expected them to get involved in the difficult relegation tussle, el Glorioso impressed to achieve a ninth place finish, creating a 24-point advantage over the bottom three.

Alaves ended the season in style with a seven-match unbeaten run (W4 D3), and there are no doubts they are very motivated ahead of club’s first ever Copa del Rey final.

Head coach Mauricio Pellegrino doesn’t have too many selection worries at the moment, with only centre-back Victor Languardia sidelined through injury.

Alexis returns from a La Liga suspension, whereas Theo Hernandez was allowed to stay and take part in the final rather than join the France Under-20 side.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Pacheco – Femenia, Alexis, Feddal, Hernandez – Llorente, Manu Garcia – Edgar, Camarasa, Ibai Gomez – Deyverson.
