Atletico vs ValenciaBBC Sport is reporting that Barcelona have beaten arch rivals Real Madrid to the signing of Valencia midfielder Andre Gomes.

The Portuguese footballer was believed to be on the verge of moving to Santiago Bernabeu, only for the Catalans to make a late bid and agree a transfer fee with los Che.

According to reports, the total cost of the transfer could be £45.8 million, and chances are that the agreement will be made official during the day.

Barcelona officials have clearly decided to rejuvenate the squad this summer, having previously recruited Denis Suarez, Samuel Umtiti and Lucas Digne.

Andre Gomes became one of Europe’s most sought after footballers shortly after joining Valencia from Benfica, and he will be leaving Mestalla after scoring 7 goals in 63 La Liga appearances.

He did not exactly impress last season as he battled several injuries and also struggled for form at the Euro 2016 finals, but the Catalans clearly believe he has the potential needed to develop into a world-class footballer.

Barcelona have been made 4.33 (10/3) favourites to lift the Champions League trophy this season, with Bayern Munich and Real Madrid expected to challenge them for the coveted title.
