Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid preview

Atletico Madrid will be more than happy to put a dent into Real Madrid’s title hopes, especially as a victory over los Blancos would boost their Champions League hopes.

Jose Mourinho’s side, on the other hand, are in problems after the goalless draw against Valencia and a failure to win at Vicente Calderon would put Barcelona in the driving seat for the league title.

Diego Simeone has got to be given credit for Atletico’s uptrend in fortunes, but the latest turnaround won’t be complete without a good result against arch rivals Real Madrid.

Seeing that Simeone lost all five games against Real while playing for los Colchoneros, the talented coach will have more than enough motives to help his side record a positive result at Vicente Calderon.

The 2-0 defeat to Levante ended team’s three-match winning run and seriously damaged their Champions League hopes, meaning that Atletico have got to try and make amends against Real.

This may be a long shot, but you should know Ladbrokes pay no less than 6.00 (5/1) on home win, whereas William Hill has the best price on away win, seeing they pay 1.62 (5/8).

The hosts have received welcoming news before the all-important clash with Real as Radamel Falcao Garcia fully recovered from a bout of flu, but Miranda, Mario Suarez and Eduardo Salvio are all suspended for this match. Antonio Lopez and Silvio are out injured.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Courtois – Juanfran, Perea, Godin, Filipe Luis – Tiago, Gabi – Adrian, Diego, Turan – Falcao.

Just few weeks ago it looked as though Real would have no problems winning the La Liga title as they were ten points ahead of Barcelona, but that advantage stands at mere four points.

Slip ups against Malaga, Villarreal and Valencia served as a major blow to Real’s title bid and with los Blancos set to face Barcelona at Camp Nou on 21st April, they cannot afford any more setbacks.

Beating Atletico at Calderon will be no easy task, but Jose Mourinho will feel optimistic about his side’s chances after winning all five games against los Colchoneros.

If los Blancos win this match they will remain the favourites to win the La Liga trophy, so odds of 1.57 (4/7) offered by Stan James on Real to win the league title do look tempting.

Sergio Ramos returns to the side from suspension, whereas Lassana Diarra and Ricardo Carvalho have resumed training after recovering from injury.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Casillas – Arbeloa, Ramos, Pepe, Coentrao – Alonso, Khedira – Di Maria, Ozil, Ronaldo – Benzema.
