Athletic vs BarcelonaMere days after enjoying a remarkable 5-1 aggregate win over Barcelona in Spanish Super Cup, Athletic will attempt to pile more misery on their more illustrious opponents.

Meanwhile, the Catalans arrive at San Mames desperate to make amends for the embarrassing 4-0 loss that marred their UEFA Super Cup triumph.

Athletic are one of just a handful of sides in Europe that are not afraid to attack a team like Barcelona and it is their trademark in-your-face approach that ended up winning them the Spanish Super Cup trophy.

Los Leones celebrated their first title in 31 years in style and the celebrations probably had an effect on team’s Europa League clash with Zilina.

Even if Athletic were missing quite a few star players, they created a two-goal lead before half-time, but a disappointing second-half performance saw the Slovakian side enjoy a 3-2 win in the first leg.

Los Leones will want to make amends for the poor showing with a good result against Barcelona and they are 7.00 (6/1) shot to record another win over the Catalans.

The likes of Iraizoz, Benat, Oscar De Marcos, Markel Susaeta and Aritz Aduriz will be recalled to the side after they were rested in Slovakia.

However, Inaki Williams has suffered a recurrence of a hamstring injury, while Ander Iturraspe, Mikel San Jose, Xabi Etxeita, Iker Muniain and Jonas Ramalho remain sidelined.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Iraizoz – Boveda, Elustondo, Laporte, Balenziaga – Gurpegi, Benat – De Marcos, Eraso, Susaeta – Aduriz.

The transfer ban imposed by UEFA did not exactly had such a big effect on Barcelona, as they did manage to keep all important players in their ranks.

Even if summer recruits Arda Turan and Aleix Vidal could not be registered, the Catalans had plenty of quality options ahead of the UEFA Super Cup match with Sevilla, and they went on to secure the coveted trophy, albeit only after extra time.

Barcelona coach and players immediately started speaking about winning each and every available title this season, but little did they know that their quest would be over virtually before even starting.

The Catalans suffered one of the heaviest defeats in recent years as they were hammered 4-0 by Athletic in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup, and they could only muster a 1-1 draw in the return leg.

This will make the players very motivated to get revenge on los Leones, so bear in mind that away win pays 1.53 (8/15) at William Hill.

Luis Enrique, however, faces all sorts of selection problems seeing as Gerard Pique and and Jeremy Mathieu are banned, while Pedro has completed a switch to Chelsea.

Neymar and Douglas Pereira are definitely out, while Jordi Alba and Adriano Perreira have a small chance of being involved.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Bravo – Alves, Bartra, Mascherano, Mathieu – Rakitic, Busquets, Iniesta – Messi, Suarez, Rafinha.
