Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has criticised Atleti star Antoine Griezmann over claims he made about this year’s Ballon d’Or shortlist.

The French forward has said that he is deserving of the accolade and insisted that he was on par with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. However, Ramos has suggested that the World Cup winner needs to remain humble and respect other stars who have not received the award.

Ramos said : “Ignorance makes you very bold.

“When I hear this kid talk, I remember players like (Francesco) Totti, Raul, (Gianluigi) Buffon, (Iker) Casillas, (Paolo) Maldini, Xavi or (Andres) Iniesta who have won everything but not a Ballon d’Or.

“Everyone is free to express their opinion but I think he should take the advice of (Diego) Simeone, (Diego) Godin or Koke who represent the values that serve them [Atletico Madrid] well.”

Ramos knows the talents of Griezmann extremely well having faced him in numerous Madrid derbies. Griezmann has had a hand in eight goals in his last 12 appearances against Real. The Frenchman has already got a goal and two assists out of his first four La Liga games this season.

Despite that, he is one of the outsiders to be named top scorer at the end of the campaign with odds of 20/1 available with Paddy Power.
