Former Real Madrid defender Roberto Carlos has claimed that compatriot Vinicius Junior could make history at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

The 18-year-old moved to the Spanish capital in the summer from Brazilian outfit Flamengo for a fee of a reported 45 million euros. Despite that large transfer cost, the youngster has only made fleeting appearances at the club. He has so far only started in the Copa del Rey but did manage to score his first goal for the club as he came off the bench to score against Real Vallodolid in the league.

He also had quite an impact against Viktoria Plzen in the UEFA Champions League in the UEFA Champions League in mid-week.

Carlos suggested that those performances indicate how crucial of a player Vinicius Junior could become with Real. He said: “I always hope that the Brazilian players that come to Europe are among the best.

“Vinicius is very young and left Flamengo already with a lot of experience. It was great for him to play against Plzen. He will make history in Real Madrid and in world football.

“He is a modern player, able to dribble, responsible, consistent and complete.”

Real Madrid take on Celta Vigo at the weekend and the Brazilian forward can be backed at 6/1 with Paddy Power to score the opening goal.
