Nicolas Anelka joins Dutch side Roda JC

The legendary French international striker Nicolas Anelka appears to have put his professional playing career to bed as he joins Roda JC as a consultant.

Former Real Madrid, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal striker has been without a club ever since his spell with Indian Mumbai City, but he never went on to confirm he was going to hang up his boots and some of the most enthusiastic fans of his were hoping that the experienced French veteran could even get back to football.

And got back he did, but in a different role, just one day after the January transfer window got closed as Roda JC announced on their website the consultant deal has been struck adding that “details will be discussed in the coming weeks”.

As a player who gained vast experience in football in his spells across the continent, including Turkey, Italy and China in addition to Spain, England and India, Nicolas Anelka could go on to share valuable knowledge and experience with a Dutch club currently sitting second bottom of the Eredivisie table, with only 16 points to their name after 20 games in the season.

Roda JC have recorded only two league games throughout the season, managing only 17 goals in the process, but new investor Aleksei Korotaev is ready to splash significant amounts to held Roda JC avoid the drop.

The Swiss investor has promised to help the first-team and invest in youth academy, with Nicolas Anelka believed to be tasked specifically with working on youth development.

One of the first moves from the legendary French striker was the advice on Bastia’s Lyes Houri, who arrived on loan during the January transfer window.

A big game is coming up this weekend for Anelka’s new club as Roda JC are preparing to play host to Dutch giants Ajax in a game they stand at 10.0 (9/1) @Bet365 o stun their more prominent rivals on Sunday.
