Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has suggested that the Reds have unfinished business in the Premier League as focus switches to the 2019/20 campaign.

The Merseyside outfit came so close to lifting the title last season as they were eventually beaten by champions Manchester City by one point. However, the 22-year-old says that makes the team even more motivated to be victorious this campaign.

When asked if there is unfinished business, the defender said to the official club website: “Definitely. He (Jurgen Klopp) said that this morning in the meeting.

“We can be happy and proud of the achievement but we’ve got so much more work to do and so many ways to improve as well.

“The Premier League was so close and I think that’s all the motivation we need, that we were so close but so far at the same time in the fact that we didn’t get it.

“It’s something we want to get this year and to do so we can’t get complacent or dwell on what happened last season, we have to hit the ground running again now.”

The Reds are yet again favoured to finish behind the Citizens this season too but can be backed at a price of 9/4 with Coral to win their first top-flight crown since the 1989/90 season.
