Juventus matchwinner Cristiano Ronaldo said that the Italians enjoyed a ‘magical’ night against Atletico Madrid as they progressed to the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.
Max Allegri’s troops headed into the clash looking to overcome a 2-0 first-leg deficit. They did just that as Ronaldo hit a hat-trick to ensure the Old Lady reached the next round in dramatic fashion and the Portuguese forward suggested occasions such as that were exactly the reason that the club elected to sign him from Real Madrid.
Speaking after the game, he said: “This was why Juventus brought me here, to help do things that they have never done before.
“It was always going to be a special night and it was – not only for the goals but for the team.
“This is the mentality you need to win in the Champions League. We enjoyed a magical night. Atletico were a difficult team but we were strong too. We will see what will happen.”
Ronaldo now has four goals in the competition so far this season, some way off this season’s leading goalscorer Robert Lewandowski who has scored eight times ahead of Bayern Munich’s clash with Liverpool on Wednesday.
Odds of 25/1 are available with Betfair for Ronaldo to be the top scorer in the Champions League this season.
