Parma vs Roma preview

Parma vs RomaSerie A leaders AS Roma arrive at Ennio Tardini hoping to keep the 100% record intact and avoid conceding the first goal of the campaign, but both feats face a serious test against free-scoring Parma.

I Ducali recovered well from back to back defeats to Cesena and Milan to record a 3-2 triumph over Chievo at the weekend, this restoring some of the lost confidence.

The slow start to the new season is enough to suggest Parma players have yet to overcome the Europa League heartbreak, with the club evicted from the competition for alleged financial mistakes.

And while the opening loss to newly-promoted Cesena was seen as a major setback, I Ducali showed a lot of promise against AC Milan, but eventually had to settle for a 5-4 defeat after committing a host of defensive mistakes.

Parma then showed a lot of character to defeat Chievo on the road, with Antonio Cassano scoring his second and third goals of the season.

If the hosts are to have any chance of upsetting Roma on Wednesday, they will need the Italy international to again get on the scoresheet, so bear in mind Fantantonio is 3.95 (59/20) to score against his former club.

Jonathan Biabiany continues to miss out with a heart condition, whereas Gabriel Paletta, Mattia Cassani and Soufiane Bidaoui are sidelined through injury.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Mirante – Mendes, Costa, Lucarelli, Gobbi – Acquah, Lodi, Jorquera – Ghezzal, Coda, Cassano.

Roma’s results this season are enough to suggest Rudi Garcia has transformed the team into genuine title chasers and they look like they could push holders Juventus all the way this term.

The Giallorossi did stay without Dodo and Benatia, but they signed a number of quality players and they seem to have sufficient strength in depth to cope with the busy schedule.

While they did concede once in the 5-1 Champions League win over CSKA Moscow, AS Roma have yet to allow their opponents to score in Serie A, with triumphs over Fiorentina, Empoli and Cagliari helping them climb to the top of the standings.

It is, therefore, hardly surprising the Giallorossi have been made 2.10 (11/10) favourites to beat Parma, whilst they are 3.75 (11/4) to win to nil.

Francesco Totti, Leandro Castan and Vasilis Torosidis are set to be recalled, after they were rested in weekend’s clash against Cagliari.

Meanwhile, Ashley Cole and Daniele De Rossi face fitness tests, whereas Strootman, Balzaretti, Borriello, Iturbe, Astori and Ucan are out injured.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): De Sanctis – Torosidis, Yanga-Mbiwa, Castan, Cole – Nainggolan, Keita, Pjanic – Gervinho, Totti, Ljajic.
