Italian giants AS Roma have announced that they have parted ways with head coach Luciano Spalletti.

The Giallorossi announced the news immediately after the end of the current season that saw the club clinch a second-place finish and automatic Champions League berth thanks to a late winner against Genoa.

“We would like to thank Spalletti for his hard work and his significant contribution since his return,” said Roma President Jim Pallotta.

“Under his stewardship this season, the team has won more Serie A points and scored more goals than any side in Roma’s history. We wish Luciano all the best for the future.

“This club is on a constant path of growth and that will continue with the appointment of a new coach who shares our values and philosophy and who will continue to help us take AS Roma forward.”

AS Roma played excellent football under Spalletti, setting records for most Serie A points and goals, but that wasn’t enough for the coach to remain at the helm.

It was the clash with club icon Francesco Totti that ended up costing Spalletti the chance to continue what has been a largely successful spell at Stadio Olimpico.
