Sampdoria vs GenoaBoth sides head into the Derby della Lanterna in poor spirits as they sit just above the relegation zone, with Genoa under pressure to end a four-match losing run.

Sampdoria ended their own dismal streak as they defeated Palermo in the final game of 2015, and they now hope to start the New Year in the best possible way.

Genoa enjoyed one of their most successful seasons in recent years last term as they secured a top 6 finish in Italian Serie A, but they have been experiencing the famous second season syndrome.

The Rossoblu have struggled from the very start of the current campaign, especially on the road, while they are now going through a very difficult patch.

Genoa have suffered five successive defeats on all fronts, even losing to minnows Alessandria and they desperately need to show improvement in the New Year.

Considering they now sit mere two points above the relegation zone, the Rossoblu need to try and beat their local rivals on Tuesday, and they are 2.30 (13/10) to succeed in their quest.

Key winger Diego Perotti serves the second game of a three-match suspension, whilst Tino Costa and Alassane Tambe are out injured.

Probable starting line-up (3-4-3): Perin – De Maio, Burdisso, Ansaldi – Figueras, Rincon, Tachtsidis, Laxalt – Capel, Pavoletti, Gakpe.

Similar to their local rivals, Sampdoria have been unable to find the form that had served them so well last season that resulted in a seventh-placed finish in Serie A.

The Blucerchiati enjoyed a very good start to the league campaign while suffering an early exit from Europe, but they then sufferd a major dip in form.

The problems started at the end of October and continued almost until the turn of the year, with an eight-game winless run proving a major issue.

Sampdoria finally managed to turn things around as they beat Palermo ahead of the winter break and now head into the derby clash in much better spirits than the opposition.

With Genoa also missing two important midfielder, there appears to be value in odds of 3.50 (5/2) offered at 888sport on away win.

The visiting coach has some selection worries as well with Eder and Matias Silvestre both facing fitness tests and Nenad Krsticic definitely out.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-2-1): Viviano – De Silvestri, Moisander, Silvestre, Zukanovic – Barreto, Fernando, Carbonero – Soriano, Cassano – Eder.
