Fiorentina vs Juventus preview

Fiorentina already appear to have ended their top 3 bid, but an eventual triumph over arch rivals Juventus would at least temporarily improve the atmosphere at the club.

The Bianconeri, on the other hand, have AS Roma, Napoli, Lazio and AC Milan breathing down their necks, meaning fifth straight league win would be more than welcome.

Fiorentina have been struggling to keep up with Italy’s top sides this term and they currently sit nine points behind European positions.

Granted, Viola have a game in hand, but the way they have been playing of late, they don’t exactly have a lot of reason for optimism.

Fiorentina ended the first part of the season poorly, suffering back to back defeats to Genoa and Lazio, before missing the opportunity to defeat Napoli.

Viola have since defeated Chievo in Coppa Italia, but they definitely need to show improvement if they want to avoid losing to Juventus.

The good news is that star forward Federico Bernardeschi has been in excellent form of late, scoring 3 goals in last two appearances, and he could prove a handful for Juventus defence as well.

Davide Astori and Borja Valero are rated doubtful, whereas talented goalkeeper Bartolomiej Dragowski is out injured.

Probable starting line-up (3-4-2-1): Tatarusanu – Salcedo, Rodriguez, Astori – Chiesa, Valero, Badelj, Olivera – Bernardeschi, Ilicic – Kalinic.

Juventus have largely dominated Italian Serie A in recent years and they again find themselves at the league summit, although another title is hardly a foregone conclusion.

The Bianconeri have again been quite impressive in the first part of the season, but so have their title rivals, meaning they cannot afford to relax just yet.

Juventus won 15 of first 18 league fixtures to open up a four-point lead at the top, while they also have a game in hand, meaning they are in a pretty good position at the moment.

And having won last four league matches in style, the Bianconeri can be backed at 1.83 (5/6) to make it five in a row at Artemio Franchi.

Leonardo Bonucci and Alex Sandro should be back in contention, but they may not be fit to start the game, with Daniele Rugani and Kwadwo Asamoah waiting in the wings.

Mehdi Benatia is away on international duty, whereas Dani Alves, Mario Lemina and Federico Matiello are out injured.

Probable starting line-up (3-4-1-2): Buffon – Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini – Cuadrado, Khedira, Marchisio, Alex Sandro – Pjanic – Higuain, Dybala.
