Real Madrid have confirmed that midfielder Isco has been discharged from hospital after suffering from a bout of appendicitis.

The 26-year-old is now expected to be ruled out for up to four weeks, with his first absence set to be this weekend against local rivals Atletico Madrid.

On a statement on their official website, Real Madrid said: “Our player Isco has been discharged from hospital today [Wednesday].

“From now on, he begins his recovery process under the supervision of Sanitas Real Medical Services.”

The Spaniard has had an excellent start to the season under new Real boss Julen Lopetegui. The former Malaga man has made seven appearances in all competitions so far this season, scoring twice and providing a solitary assist. One of his goals came in Real’s 3-0 success over AS Roma on the opening matchday of the UEFA Champions League as they got the defence of their title off to the best possible start.

Despite his fast start to the 2018/19 campaign, Isco is an outside bet to claim Spain top goalscorer award. The Spaniard can be backed at 80/1 with Paddy Power to be the man to score the most goals in La Liga at the conclusion of the campaign.
