With little over 48 hours to go until hosts Brazil face Croatia in this summer’s World Cup opening fixture, thoughts are turning to who will progress from each of the eight groups.

Unsurprisingly, tournament favourites Brazil are viewed by the bookmakers as the most likely to finish top of Group A with Coral offering the best price of 1.25 (1/4).

Croatia, who have the unenviable task of facing Luiz Felipe Scolari’s men in Sao Paulo on day one of the competition are second favourites to finish top of their group at 10.0 (9/1), ahead of Mexico, who are 12.0 (11/1) with Bet Victor and Cameroon, who are rank outsiders at 34.0 (33/1) with Stan James – the latter two sides meeting in Natal on Friday.

Group B kicks off soon after Mexico v Cameroon with a repeat of the 2010 final with Spain facing the Netherlands in Salvador before Chile meet Australia in Cuiaba.

Holders Spain are favourites to finish first at 1.73 (8/11) with most firms, while the Netherlands are a 4.1 (31/10) shot with Sporting Bet. Chile are widely available at 6.0 (5/1) with Australia as highly priced as the 101.0 (100/1) on offer from William Hill.

Group C begins with Colombia against Greece in Belo Horizonte and Ivory Coast versus Japan in Recife, and the South Americans are favourites to top the pile at 2.0 (1/1).

Ivory Coast, who have failed to make it out of difficult groups in both 2006 and 2010, have arguably an easier task this time around, and can be backed at 4.65 (62/17) with 888 Sport ahead of 5.5 (9/2) shots Japan and 8.5 (15/2) chance Greece.

Italy, who are favourites at 2.7 (17/10) with Paddy Power to win what is expected to be a closely fought Group D, begin their campaign against 3.2 (11/5) shots England in Manaus on Saturday.

Uruguay are 3.0 (2/1) with Bet Victor to finish first, and the South Americans begin their campaign against 51.0 (50/1) outsiders Costa Rica in Fortaleza.
