Schalke vs WolfsburgWolfsburg will be looking to make amends for last week’s draw with Koln when they host top 4 rivals Schalke at Volkswagen Arena.

The Miners will have something to prove as well after the failure to beat newcomers Darmstadt at home marred the opening triumph over Werder Bremen.

In spite of the uncertainty surrounding star players Kevin De Bruyne and Ivan Perisic, Wolfsburg enjoyed a string start to the season and they now aim to continue in the same manner.

The Wolves pipped mighty Bayern Munich to the German Super Cup trophy before hammering Stuttgart Kickers in DFB Pokal and recording a narrow win over Eintracht at the start of the new Bundesliga campaign.

Wolfsburg produced another very good performance away at FC Koln, but were unable to make their domination count and once again needed Nicklas Bendtner to salvage a draw.

The Dane is slowly proving he is returning to decent shape and he could be of big help to Dieter Hecking’s side this season.

There are no doubts Wolfsburg will be looking to return to winning ways against Schalke and they have been made 2.00 (1/1) favourites to emerge victorious.

Dieter Hecking will have Andre Schurrle back to the side, but Diego Benaglio and Felipe remain on the sidelines.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Casteels – Vieirinha, Naldo, Klose, R. Rodriguez – Arnold, Luiz Gustavo – De Bruyne, Kruse, Perisic – Dost.

Having missed out on a top 4 finish last term, Schalke aim to make things right this season, but they haven’t exactly reinforced the squad over the summer.

The Miners did sign Franco Di Santo and Jonathan Geis, but they appear to be still lacking the quality needed to match Germany’s top sides.

Coach Andre Breitenreiter was unfortunate to have key defender Matija Nastasic suffer a serious injury, meaning Schalke might try to sign a new centre-back before the end of the transfer window.

The Miners, too, enjoyed a very good start to the season, hammering Duisburg and Werder Bremen in their first two fixtures, but they should have done better to defeat Darmstadt in the second league fixture.

Schalke are now priced at 3.90 (29/10) to beat Wolfsburg on the road, although that seems easier said than done at the moment.

The visitors still have a long list of injured players that include Matija Nastasic, Fabian Giefer, Felipe Santana, Benedikt Howedes, Atsuto Uchida and Kevin-Prince Boateng.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Fahrmann – Caicara, Matip, Neustadter, Aogo – Choupo-Moting, Goretzka, Geis, Draxler – Huntelaar, Di Santo.
