Wilson McCarthyRepublic of Ireland footballers Marc Wilson and James McCarthy are both rated doubtful for the high-profile clash against Scotland in the Euro 2016 qualifying campaign.

The Scots host their neighbours at Hampden Park on the back of a very good start to the campaign and they can be backed at 2.40 (7/5) to emerge victorious.

However, manager Martin O’Neill is not without problems seeing as how defender Marc Wilson and midfielder James McCarthy have suffered injuries at the weekend.

The Stoke City centre-back was withdrawn midway through the first period of the Tottenham clash due to a hamstring injury and he is set to be assessed by the Republic of Ireland medical team.

Meanwhile, James McCarthy played full 90 minutes for Everton in the 1-1 draw with Sunderland, but Roberto Martinez suggested he, too, felt his hamstring.

“He was feeling his hamstring towards the end of the game but he wanted to stay on the pitch because we had used all three subs,” the Spaniard said.

“It is a bit of a concern because he had the same injury a few weeks back when he missed the game against Manchester United and it is in that area. We are hoping that it is more fatigue than a soft tissue problem.”
