Hertha vs WerderThe ultimate relegation six pointer will see 16th-placed Werder Bremen face fellow strugglers Eintracht Frankfurt in a match where the winner is guaranteed Bundesliga survival.

Neither side planned to be in this position before the season started, but at least they can take comfort from the fact that the loser will be involved in the relegation play-off rather than automatically relegated.

Following some shocking displays in the first part of the season, Werder Bremen showed a great deal of improvement after the turn of the year.

The Weserstadion outfit won four fixtures after the winter break, with the 6-2 hammering of struggling Stuttgart their most impressive and most important result up to date.

Werder also did well to escape a defeat to Koln last time out, but they remained in the bottom three due to the fact that their next opponents Eintracht won their third straight fixture.

Viktor Skripnik’s side can now be backed at 2.05 (21/20) to win the all-important clash and secure the Bundesliga survival on the final day of the season.

Santiago Garcia faces a fitness test after suffering a concussion, but Bartels is suspended and Bargfrede, Wolf, Veljkovic and Yatabare are out injured.

Probable starting line-up (4-1-4-1): Wiedwald – Gebre Selassie, Vestergaard, Djilobodji, S. Garcia – Grillitsch – Oztunali, Fritz, Junuzovic, Yildirim – Pizarro.

Just a couple of weeks ago, it looked as though Eintracht Frankfurt would surely be relegated, but the Eagles are on the road of producing one of the greatest comebacks in recent years.

As if by magic, Eintracht forgot all about three consecutive defeats and went on to record successive wins over Mainz, Darmstadt and Borussia Dortmund.

The Eagles thus climbed out of the relegation zone, and even though they are now safe yet, they are in a much better position that a couple of weeks back.

Namely, Eintracht will escape the relegation play-off if they avoid defeat in Bremen, and they certainly head into the crucial clash in better spirits than the opposition.

The visitors have some selection problems as well seeing that Szabolcs Huszti is banned, while Medojevic, Zambrano, Flum and Reinartz are out injured.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Hradecky – Regasel, Abraham, Russ, Oczipka – Stendera, Hasebe – Aigner, Gacinovic, Ben-Hatira – Seferovic.
