Dimitar Berbatov MonacoMonaco boss Claudio Ranieri admits he is hoping Fulham striker Dimitar Berbatov will remain at Stade Louis II beyond the current season.

The Bulgarian joined the Principality club on loan from the Premier League side in January and he has enjoyed a bright start to his career in France.

Berbatov went on to score four goals in his first eight appearances for the new employers, and he seems to have done enough to warrant a permanent stay.

“Slowly, he gets better. This is a good player and he is very important to us,” Monaco boss Claudio Ranieri told L’Equipe. “I think he wants to stay. We will talk together later.”

Monaco have dropped out of the Ligue 1 title chase since star striker Radamel Falcao picked up a season-ending injury, but they have all but secured the second place in the standings.

Claudio Ranieri’s charges will be looking to make amends for Sunday’s draw with Lille when they take on Evian on the road, with away win paying 1.95 (19/20).
