Italy made it through to the European Championship final against all odds, having recorded a deserved victory over Germany in the semis and they are now set to battle Spain for the coveted trophy.

Mario Balotelli proved his worth by scoring both goals in Warsaw, taking his goal tally to three. The Man City forward is now 5/4 to be the top tournament goalscorer and 10/1 to be named player of the tournament.

“Tonight was all about Mario as it quite often is, but it was all for the right reasons and he could now fire Italy to glory and himself to top goalscorer,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

While Balotelli made the headlines for all the right reasons, it was Andrea Pirlo who picked up his second successive Man of the Match award and the highly rated playmaker is 7/4 favourite to win the top player award.

William Hill also revealed that one German fan had staked £41,000 on Germany to win the tournament two days before the Italy clash, adding that it had been the gentleman’s first ever bet. No beginner’s luck then.

Spain remain the favourites to win Euro 2012, with Paddy Power paying 8/15 on La Furia Roja to lift the trophy, whereas Spain are 8/5 with bet365 to end their Euro 2012 campaign on a high.
