Messi, Di Maria named in Argentina Copa America squad

Argentina vs SwitzerlandArgentina coach Gerardo Martino has announced his preliminary 30-man squad for the 2015 Copa America tournament in Chile.

The 2014 World Cup finalists head into the competition as 3.50 (5/2) favourites for the coveted trophy and most star names have made the provisional squad.

Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez have all been named in Gerardo Martino’s squad, while Angel Di Maria and Erik Lamela are also in, despite the poor run of form.

Veteran Maxi Rodriguez keeps his place in the side, while Nahuel Guzman, Milton Casco, Fernando Gago and Federico Mancuello are the other home-based players in the squad.

Gerardo Martino has until 1st June to select the final 23-man squad, before La Albiceleste take on a series of friendly fixtures.

Argentina face Bolivia on 5th June in San Juan in their final friendly, while they have been drawn alongside Uruguay, Paraguay and Jamaica in Group B at the tournament finals.

Goalkeepers: Sergio Romero (Sampdoria), Nahuel Guzmán (Tigres), Mariano Andújar (Napoli), Agustín Marchesín (Santos Laguna).

Defenders: Pablo Zabaleta (Manchester City), Facundo Roncaglia (Genoa), Ezequiel Garay (Zenit), Martín Demichelis (Manchester City), Nicolás Otamendi (Valencia), Federico Fernandez (Swansea City), Marcos Rojo (Manchester United), Milton Casco (Newell’s), Lucas Orbán (Valencia).

Midfielders: Javier Mascherano (Barcelona), Lucas Biglia (Lazio), Éver Banega (Sevilla), Roberto Pereyra (Juventus), Fernando Gago (Boca), Ángel Di María (Manchester United), Federico Mancuello (Independiente), Maxi Rodríguez (Newell’s), Enzo Pérez (Valencia), Erik Lamela (Tottenham), Javier Pastore (PSG).
