Marseille vs MonacoHaving finally ended a four-match losing run, Marseille can keep their slim Champions League hopes alive only if they defeat top 3 rivals Monaco.

Meanwhile, the Principality Club would all but secure the final CL berth with a draw at Stade Velodrome, meaning the visitors can be trusted to adopt their trademark cautious approach.

Despite leading the title chase for large periods of the current season, Marseille are not only without chances to finish in the first place, but a top 3 finish no longer seems a realistic possibility.

The recent four-match losing run seriously damaged team’s pre-season ambitions, although problems for Marcelo Bielsa’s side had started immediately after the winter break.

The coach’s demanding physical approach appears to have seen his players run out of steam much earlier than their rivals, with OM recently slipping to fourth in the league standings.

Even if the away win over Metz helped the players restore some of the lost confidence, the reality is Marseille remain five points adrift of Champions League positions.

But, seeing as they now face top 3 rivals Monaco, bear in mind they can be backed at 2.30 (13/10) to claim maximum points at Stade Velodrome.

Marcelo Bielsa will have Jeremy Morel back from suspension, but Abdelaziz Barrada continues to miss out through a groin injury.

While there is no clause preventing Lucas Ocampos from facing his parent club, Marseille chairman Vincent Labrune has confirmed that the Argentine will take no part in the match.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Mandanda – Lemina, N’Koulou, Morel, Mendy – Romao, Imbula – Alessandrini, Payet, Ayew – Gignac.

While many expected Monaco to crumble after the club chiefs decided to cut the budget and allow some star players to leave, the Principality club have done much better than expected this term.

They defied the odds to reach the Champions League quarter-finals, where they gave Serie A champions Juventus a real run for their money, while narrowly missing out on a Coupe de la Ligue final.

And even though a top 3 finish in Ligue 1 seemed like mission impossible at one moment, Leonardo Jardim’s charges have been absolutely brilliant in the league since the start of December.

Monaco have only lost one game in last twenty league fixtures (W13 D6 L1), thus creating a five-point advantage over Marseille with three games to go.

And with the Principality club in much better form than their top 3 rivals, you should know that away win pays 3.50 (5/2)at Coral.

Winger Nabil Dirar misses out through suspension, whilst Jeremy Toulalan and Dimitar Berbatov might be fit enough to make the bench.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Subasic – Raggi, Carvalho, Abdennour, Kurzawa – Fabinho, Kondogbia – Silva, Moutinho, Ferreira-Carrasco – Martial.
