Lyon vs Lille preview

Having returned to winning ways against Marseille, Lyon will be hoping to further close the gap behind Champions League positions this weekend.

Les Gones will be up against struggling Lille, who desperately need a morale-boosting win after a poor run of results.

Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas has got to be congratulated for keeping the current squad together considering that he could get serious cash for the likes of Lacazette, Tolisso and Fekir, among others.

The president seems determined to turn les Gones into genuine title contenders again, with the capture of Memphis Depay definitely a sign of ambition.

Lyon have indeed impressed over the last few months, winning eight of last ten league fixtures, but they still sit eight points adrift of top 3 positions, albeit with a game in hand.

Following the 3-1 triumph over Marseille that again saw Alexandre Lacazette bag a brace, les Gones have been made 1.50 (1/2) favourites to see off Lille this weekend.

Memphis Depay made his Lyon debut last weekend, but he will probably have to settle for a place on the bench yet again.

There have been no fresh injury worries for head coach Bruno Genesio, but Sergi Darder and Mouctar Diakhaby remain sidelined.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Lopes – Rafael, Mammana, Yanga-Mbiwa, Morel – Gonalons, Tolisso – Cornet, Fekir, Valbuena – Lacazette.

Lille are clearly going through a very difficult campaign this term and they cannot seem to escape the dangerous zone.

Les Dogues have big ambitions for the next few years and are expected to attract some big name signings next summer, but they first need to secure the Ligue 1 survival.

Lille have been pretty disappointing of late, losing to Marseille before embarking on a run of three straight draws, so no doubts they are under pressure ahead of the Lyon game.

The good news is les Dogues are unbeaten in last five matches at Stade Pierre-Mauroy, with both teams scoring in each of those.

Mounir Obbadi and Yves Bissouma are still away on international duty, whereas Rio Mavuba has yet to recover from injury.

Probable starting line-up (3-4-1-2): Enyeama – Soumaoro, Basa, Beria – Corchia, Amadou, Sankhare, Palmieri – Rony Lopes – Benzia, de Preville.
