Robbie KeaneRobbie Keane and Darron Gibson are both set to miss Republic if Ireland’s friendly match against the United States, BBC Sport can reveal.

The duo took part in weekend’s Euro 2016 qualifying defeat to Scotland, with the Everton midfielder starting and Keane coming on as a second-half substitute.

However, they have now been ruled out of the friendly match against the United States, where the Irish are 2.40 (7/5) favourites to claim maximum points.

Together with USA internationals Jermaine Jones, Lee Nguyen, DeAndre Yedlin and DaMarcus Beasley, Keane has withdrawn from the squad as they prepare for the MLS play-off matches scheduled for next weekend.

Meanwhile, Darron Gibson has been allowed to return to Everton after suffering a minor knee injury in the Scotland clash.

Derby County defender Cyrus Christie and Ipswich forward David McGoldrick are in line to be handed their debuts as Martin O’Neill plans wholesale changes to the starting line-up.
