The 2017 Gold Cup hosts United States take on surprise package Jamaica in the final after the Reggae Boyz shocked Mexico in the semis.

USMNT fans who had already purchased tickets for the tournament finals were quite disappointed to see Bruce Arena’s 23-man roster as he opted to leave all star players out of the side.

USA, nonetheless, managed to produce a decent performance at the 2017 Gold Cup, sharing spoils with Panama before defeating Martinique and Nicaragua in group stage.

The rich vein of form continued in the knockout stages as victories over El Salvador and Costa Rica secured yet another final appearance.

USMNT will not attempt to lift their sixth Gold Cup trophy, with each of the first five won on home soil (1991, 2002, 2005, 2007, 2013).

The hosts did well to keep three consecutive clean sheets and can now be backed at 1.50 (1/2) to win the final in regular time.

Key men Michael Bradley, Clint Dempsey, Tim Howard, Jozy Altidore and Darlington Nagbe were all added to the squad ahead of the knockout stages and they are expected to feature in the final as well.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Howard – Zusi, Gonzalez, Besler, Villafana – Arriola, Acosta, Bradley, Nagbe – Altidore, Morris.

Jamaica haven’t enjoyed a great deal of success at the Gold Cup tournaments so far, with the 2015 their biggest achievement up to date.

The Reggae Boyz weren’t exactly seen as favourites at the 2017 edition, but they took great advantage of the fact that most top teams arrived with second-string sides.

After squeezing through to the knockout stages, Jamaica defeated Canada and Mexico to reach their second successive final, where they will face hosts USMNT.

The Regaae Boyz fared pretty well in previous meetings with USA, achieving 8 wins, 2 draws and 14 defeats in 24 meetings, although they did lose 11 of 15 matches on US soil.

Eight players from the current squad ply their trade in the MLS and they will have an extra motivation to give their best at the Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Blake – Powell, Lowe, Taylor, Lawrence – Gordon, Watson, Richie, Francis – Williams, Mattocks.
